“Give us Technology Solutions Nobody Else Has.”

Sure! [Sensory Technologies Loves a Challenge.]

Franklin Electric now has state-of-the-art technology to fuel its cutting-edge laboratory facilities, and there is an additional service provided to help employees embrace the technology’s full potential.

Franklin Electric sought bleeding-edge technology solutions throughout its new 120,000 sq. ft. World Headquarters and Engineering Center of Excellence located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Challenge

Franklin Electric is a global leader in the production and marketing of systems and components for the movement of water and automotive fuels. Recognized as a technical leader in its specialties, Franklin Electric serves customers around the world in residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, municipal, and fueling applications.

CEO and Chairman of the Board Scott Trumbull explained that Franklin Electric had outgrown its physical capacity to develop and test new products. “As we emerged from the recent recession, the issue was therefore not whether we should build a new headquarters and lab, but where it should be.”

Another “issue” was how to infuse technology solutions throughout the facility to empower the company’s innovative, forward-thinking vision. Sensory Technologies embraced this exciting partnership opportunity very early – with conversations beginning in mid- 2011. The project was completed in August of 2013.

The Approach

Franklin Electric’s leadership had a well-defined vision for how they wanted to communicate internally to most effectively develop and test new products. Having been engaged early within the construction planning phase, Sensory Technology was able to collaboratively incorporate technology throughout the entire building – enhancing that vision.

A big component of their vision included Kaizen Rooms.

The Solution

It was a first for Sensory Technologies – to work within an organization that embraced a “kaizen” philosophy. Kaizen operates on the principle that every employee’s ideas are an asset to the company. Areas devoted to that philosophy, therefore, promote mutual respect and open communication whereby people are able to voice suggestions and ideas. How might technology enhance that vision?

Communicate. Collaborate. Prosper! There are three Kaizen Rooms with two of them designed as divisible rooms that open into one large space. Each of these rooms has an 82” diagonal interactive touch screen monitors and 55” monitors with interactive touch overlays. Each also utilizes technology that enables up to 4 laptops transmitted wirelessly, dedicated PCs on each monitor, and Meeting on the Move™ (MOTM) video conference systems.

An Executive Boardroom boasts a 2×2 55” diagonal video wall that serves as the main presentation system. The room also houses an 82” interactive touch screen monitor on the opposite wall. All source inputs are able to be displayed on the video wall or the 82” monitor. There are laptop inputs at the boardroom table, a dedicated PC, and video conferencing within this system. The audio system consists of nine electric microphones. “They appear out of the ceiling when an audio or video conference is prompted,” remarks Andy Sellers, principal. “It’s a nice, clean, dramatic image.”

An open Café features two 3×3 video walls that can be configured for up to six separate channels of cable television or Franklin Electric digital messaging. The presentation configuration is capable of displaying multiple PC or laptop inputs and video conferencing. Twelve Small Conference Rooms have dual 55” monitors (2 of these rooms have dual 46” monitors), HDMI and VGA connectivity.

In addition, the extensive project included Office Systems Single Display Rooms (12 Rooms), Small Conference Dual Display Rooms (3 Rooms), IT Work Room, Fitness Room, Break Room Monitors, IT Helpdesk and an Engineering Laboratory. Sensory Technologies Services & Room Scheduling and a Corporate Communications Digital Messaging system also are in place.
